BonelliErede announces the arrival of Ferdinando Emanuele as a partner based at the firm’s Rome office. With a successful international career spanning over 30 years in the arbitration and litigation arena, Emanuele will become co-head of the firm’s international arbitration practice alongside partners Andrea Carlevaris and Paolo Di Giovanni.
Ferdinando Emanuele is one of Italy’s most internationally recognised lawyers, renowned primarily for his work in international arbitration. He joins from the US law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, where he had practised since 1998. Throughout his career, he has been involved in a significant number of high-profile domestic and international arbitrations. Chambers Global and Chambers Europe have ranked him for many years as a “Star Individual” in Dispute Resolution and in “Band 1” in the Dispute Resolution: Most in Demand Arbitrators section.
Emanuele is a member of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris. Since 2020, upon designation by the Italian Government and the Governor of the Bank of Italy, he has served on the panel of arbitrators at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. Furthermore, he has been Adjunct Professor of International Arbitration at LUISS University in Rome since 2020 and is the author of several books and sector-specific publications.
As a result of this appointment, the number of professionals dealing with international arbitration at BonelliErede rises to 27. The team, which includes six partners and two of counsel, has extensive experience in a wide range of practice areas and has developed a deep understanding of legal systems globally. Since the firm’s founding in 1999, this group has represented – and continues to be – one of BonelliErede’s flagship practices, with a proven track record and a position of primary standing at international level.
Eliana Catalano, Managing Partner of BonelliErede, had this to say: “We are delighted to welcome Ferdinando to our great team. His arrival is part of a broader project to consolidate our international arbitration practice with the aim of further strengthening our positioning in overseas markets: his extensive and recognised international experience will bring significant added value to our firm and all our clients”.
Massimiliano Danusso, Chairman of BonelliErede, added: “We are proud that Ferdinando has chosen to continue his professional journey at BonelliErede – a law firm whose roots are in Italy. His decision to join us from a US firm bucks current global trends and reinforces BonelliErede’s ability to continue to attract top professionals, positioning our firm among the most active market players both in Italy and internationally”.
Ferdinando Emanuele commented: “I am honoured to join BonelliErede at this exciting time in the firm’s growth. Together with Andrea Carlevaris and Paolo Di Giovanni, we will work to further strengthen the firm’s international arbitration practice – and I am certain that, with the entire talented team at the firm, we will continue to consolidate our leading market position”.
