On 12 August 2024, the Decree of 19 June 2024 was published on the institutional website of the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) on ‘Incentives for innovative renewable source plants or plants with high generation costs having characteristics of innovation and reduced impact on the environment and the territory’ (the so-called FER 2 Decree), which came into force the day after its publication, i.e., on 13 August 2024. This measure has been expected since 2018.
Despite the delay, the FER 2 Decree finally represents a step forward in supporting energy produced from RES sources with an innovative character that can significantly contribute to Italy’s energy transition towards sustainable sources. The FER 2 Decree, which allows operators to plan their investments over a period of almost 5 years, introduces many important innovations. With this newsletter, without claiming to be exhaustive, we would like to highlight the main ones.
Our Infrastructure, Energy and Ecological Transition Focus Team explains and addresses recent positions on these issues in the document available here.
