Personal data and the current health emergency: what can be done to address the Covid-19 pandemic while still respecting privacy law and individual rights?

Personal data have taken on a central role in containing the spread of Covid-19, be it through the monitoring of employees at work, travel monitoring via apps or scientific research.

But one must understand how and to what extent personal data can be legally used to manage and mitigate the risks associated with the emergency. It is thus essential to take stock of the situation within the complex legislative context we find ourselves in – analysing what has been done so far to be able to better evaluate what can and should be done moving forward.
