BonelliErede launches the fifth edition of its two scholarships in memory of Franco Bonelli
1 March 2021

For the fifth year in a row, BonelliErede is granting two scholarships to deserving students to honour the memory of one of its founders: Franco Bonelli. The scholarships are for young law graduates who wish to deepen their studies in the subjects addressed by Franco Bonelli in his writings.
The first scholarship is to attend a master’s (LLM or similar) and the second to carry out a research programme (PhD or research for a book or article) – at a European or US university.

Applications open today and close on 7 April. To be eligible, you must be an EU citizen who graduated in law (or equivalent qualification) before 31 December 2020 at an EU university – with a score of at least 105/110 (or equivalent).Applicants should also have adequate knowledge of the language used in the study or research programme they plan to attend.

The scholarship programme is again coordinated by Alberto Saravalle, partner and board member at BonelliErede, who commented as follows:

“After such a dramatic 2020 rife with health and economic woes, this scholarship programme takes on even greater meaning than in previous years. Indeed, it is not only a way to keep Franco Bonelli’s memory and teachings alive for the new generations but also to give two young talents an opportunity to pursue their dream of studying abroad at a university of excellence, despite the difficulties caused by the unexpected socioeconomic situation we are facing.”

The successful applicants will be chosen by a committee comprising professors Sabino Cassese (chair), Giovanni Domenichini and Piergaetano Marchetti.

Stefano Simontacchi, President of BonelliErede, commented as follows:

“The year we left behind proved undoubtedly challenging. We live in a world of continuous change, and it is precisely in these situations that we believe our gaze should turn towards our youth. The awarding of these two scholarships is not only an opportunity to keep the memory of one of our founders alive but also – and above all – a wonderful way to invest in our future.”

Applications must be sent to Marco Sinopoli at BonelliErede by 7 April (email: marco.sinopoli@belex.com; post: Via Michele Barozzi, 1 – 20122, Milan). The successful applicants will be announced by 15 May.

Finally, this year’s edition brings something new: on 10 March at 11:00 CET professors Alberto Saravalle and Giovanni Domenichini, together with past scholarship winners, will meet online with aspiring candidates for the fifth edition of the Franco Bonelli scholarships in a dedicated room on Clubhouse – the social network that has created so much buzz recently. It will be a great opportunity not only for all involved to discuss the scholarship programme but also for this year’s applicants to ask past winners what it means to live the dream of studying at a large international university.
